Being the Superhero Parent

By Julie Young August 23, 2016
If your child has not started school yet, in the next few weeks they likely will. For me this brings nostalgia of them each standing on our porch for the first time with backpacks too big for their little bodies. With each year I have a moment of fear and excitement. Will they make friends? Will they do well in school? Will they like school? I then also question myself as a mother. I often challenge myself to be the best mom out there. I make special treats, write messages on napkins, wake them with a smile. But by October I am tired. It is hard being a superhero mom. And yes, I feel guilty that I did not have time to write the special note or that I could not have lunch with them that week. But in the end I truly believe that as parents we can't be perfect. We have to choose our special moments that our children will remember. My children have been asked what they liked that I did for them over the years. My son declared in Kindergarten that I made him eggs and my daughter still at age eleven says her favorite thing I did was listen to her learn to read Skippyjon Jones books in Kindergarten. So my message this week is don't worry about being a superhero because just the small moments makes you a hero. Tune in the next few weeks for some great giveaways and upcoming events.
